The JRA Racing Museum stands as Japan's premier institution dedicated to horse racing culture, located within the prestigious Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu. Established in 1984 as part of the JRA's 30th anniversary project, the Memorial Hall was set up within the JRA Racing Museum to honor Hall of Fame Horses. In 2004, in part of its 50th anniversary project, similar expansion to the Memorial Hall followed to honor Hall of Fame Horsemen (trainers and jockeys).

The museum serves as the cultural cornerstone of Japanese horse racing, presenting comprehensive exhibits that trace the sport's development from its introduction during the late Edo period to its modern prominence. Tokyo Racecourse opened in 1933 and boasts over 90 years of history, serving as Tokyo's only venue for central horse racing events and the largest racecourse in Japan, offering seating for 15,000 spectators. The facility has welcomed as many as 190,000 visitors in a single day during major events like the world-renowned Japan Cup.

Visitors can explore multiple exhibition halls featuring thoroughbred horses, racing memorabilia, and multimedia displays across dedicated spaces within the racecourse complex. The museum showcases the accomplishments of legendary horses inducted into the Hall of Fame, requiring horses to win more than three Grade 1 races or demonstrate exceptional breeding results. Interactive experiences allow guests to understand race horse development and engage with the sport's mechanics, including starter demonstrations and life-size model horse displays that particularly appeal to families.

The museum operates with varying schedules depending on racing activities. On live race days and off-course betting days, hours are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, while other days operate from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Access is convenient via multiple train lines, with the closest stations being Fuchu Keiba Seimon Mae Station (7-minute walk) and Keio Line Higashi-fuchu Station (10-minute walk). The racecourse entry fee ranges from 100-200 yen depending on race day schedules, making it an affordable cultural destination that combines sports heritage with educational value for visitors seeking insight into Japan's horse racing traditions.

Great for horse racing fans
Horse racing museum right next to the Tokyo racecourse.
The racetrack is closed on weekdays, but there is a museum to visit. The VR experience is incredibly exciting, and there are detailed introductions to various horse races. It's definitely worth a visit. You can also check out the racecourse and practice areas. The surrounding environment is also very beautifully maintained.
