What other travelers are saying about Kawaguchiko Tenjoyama Park
Not so much a “park”, as a bunch of photo zones at the top of the cable car for an upper view of Mt. Fuji.
Bit of fun, but I’m not a fan of these types of photo zones personally. Just feels more like a money trap. You can skip the cable car (ropeway) and take a hike up the mountain.
It does provide a stunning view of Mt. Fuji - though the view was just as stunning from the lake.
Kawaguchiko Tenjoyama Park offers one of the most stunning views of both Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi, making it a must-visit destination for travelers exploring the Fuji Five Lakes region. The park is easily accessible by the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, which provides a smooth and scenic ride up the mountain. As you ascend, the panoramic view gradually expands, revealing the lake’s deep blue water and the majestic silhouette of Mount Fuji—a truly breathtaking moment even before reaching the top.
At the summit, visitors can enjoy several well-maintained view decks that offer unobstructed photo spots. On clear days, Mount Fuji appears incredibly close and detailed, making it one of the best locations for photography. The park also references the Japanese folktale “Kachi-Kachi Yama,” with charming statues and themed decorations that add a unique cultural touch to the area.
The walking paths around the summit are easy and suitable for most visitors. There are also small resting areas, a café, and souvenir shops where travelers can relax while taking in the view. For those seeking a bit more adventure, hiking trails connect the mountain to nearby scenic points, providing additional panoramic perspectives.
One of the highlights is pairing the ropeway experience with the Lake Kawaguchi pleasure boat. Viewing Mount Fuji from the mountain and then from the lake offers two completely different yet equally beautiful angles.
Overall, Kawaguchiko Tenjoyama Park is a peaceful, scenic, and memorable destination. Whether you enjoy photography, sightseeing, or simply relaxing in nature, the park delivers an unforgettable experience and is absolutely worth visiting during a trip to Kawaguchiko.
This is the best viewing spot for Mt Fuji hands down.
I was very fortunate in that Mt Fuji was in clear view this day. But it’s much better than the Lawson’s photo spot.
Take the ropeway to get to this park which is pretty cheap and honestly you can take a 1 way ticket then walk down the mountain on the trail (20mins). The trail was easy and simple and had more views of the mountain. Be warned there are no lights and it can be slippery so use caution if late in the day or if it rained recently.
Another warning is it gets very very crowded so go early, otherwise you will struggle to get photos and wait in long lines for all the spots.
I skipped the swings so I can’t comment as it didn’t look worth the wait to me. The swings didn’t have a forced timer it seemed and the line wasn’t moving. However up the hill from the swings there is a better platform for photos. It’s a metal tower you can climb for great photos solo or group.
The views were great but don't buy tickets for the swings unless you're almost there. We waited for an hour and regret it, the line had barely moved and still had about 40 people ahead of us ended up giving our tickets away. Also the rest rooms were closed. Don't recommend. Would have given 1 star but we took some great pics of Mount Fuji.
We took the express bus from Shinjuku to Fujikawaguchiko and didn’t prebook anything in advance except the outbound bus ticket. Around 1 p.m. in late July, we waited close to an hour for the cable car. The ride to the top was short but enjoyable. Once there, we found plenty of walking paths and great photo opportunities. The temperature was also very pleasant, making it a comfortable and enjoyable visit.
The optimal visiting times depend on the seasonal flower displays. Late June to mid-July for hydrangea blooms with 100,000 plants. Mid-April to late May for the moss phlox festival with 100,000 pink flowers. Early mornings provide clearer Mount Fuji views before afternoon clouds arrive. Winter offers fewer flowers but the best mountain visibility.
Park entry is free year-round. The Kachikachi Ropeway costs approximately ¥900 round-trip. The Shibazakura Festival may charge a separate entrance fee during its operation period.
Visibility depends on weather conditions. Early mornings in winter and spring offer the best chances. The mountain is frequently obscured by clouds, especially in afternoons and summer. Check Mount Fuji visibility forecasts before visiting.
The park has gentle walking paths suitable for most fitness levels. The Kachikachi Ropeway eliminates the need to climb. Some slopes and stairs exist between observation levels. Visitors with limited mobility should use the ropeway and remain on main pathways near the entrance.
Most visitors spend 1 to 2 hours exploring the walking paths, viewing platforms, and flower gardens. Photography enthusiasts during peak bloom seasons may allocate 2 to 3 hours. The compact layout allows for shorter visits of 30 to 45 minutes if time is limited or weather conditions are poor.
