Lake Saiko, one of Japan's pristine Fuji Five Lakes, offers a peaceful retreat away from the bustling tourist hubs. Located near the majestic Mount Fuji, this hidden gem is surrounded by dense forests and rolling hills, creating a picture-perfect escape for nature lovers.

Its deep blue waters, reaching a depth of approximately 71.7 meters, provide a tranquil setting ideal for activities like fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. What sets Lake Saiko apart is its unspoiled charm.

Unlike its more developed neighbor, Lake Kawaguchiko, this lake exudes a quieter vibe, making it a preferred spot for campers and hikers seeking a deeper connection with nature. The trails surrounding the lake offer breathtaking views, particularly at the western end, where Mount Fuji often reveals itself in all its glory.

Cultural enthusiasts will appreciate Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba, a reconstructed village showcasing traditional thatched-roof farmhouses. Here, visitors can explore Japan's rural heritage, try their hand at local crafts, or enjoy regional delicacies.

Whether craving adventure or serenity, Lake Saiko delivers an unforgettable experience. Pack your gear, plan your visit, and uncover the beauty of this remarkable destination.

Traveler reviews

Honestly, this is my favorite spot in the area if you want a great view of Fuji without the massive crowds. I loved that it wasn't completely deserted, but it’s definitely not chaotic like some of the other lakes. The best part for me was just walking a bit further down the path away from the main parking area. Once you get a little distance, it’s so peaceful and you get these perfect, clear reflections of the mountain on the water.

Beautiful lake view with Mount Fuji. You may get lucky if you can see the reflection of Mount Fuji on the lake.
Exploring the Fuji area by car leads you to breathtaking, less touristy spots like Lake Saiko. We drove around the lake and discovered so many stunning hidden gems along the way!
A simple place, without many attractions besides the stunning view of Mount Fuji. The best time of year to visit is in the winter.
This is a smaller lake, but a great place for camping. We rode our bikes so could feel some part of the road isn't too smooth, in fact very bumpy, but some parts are so great. Worth a quick visit if you have a car or bike, or would like to go camping.
