A nice little surprise right at the train station — rows of illuminated kimono-patterned pillars that make for some really cool photos. Free to walk through and when we visited it was surprisingly quiet so we had the place mostly to ourselves. We saw it during the day but I imagine it looks even better at night when the pillars light up. Worth a quick stop if you’re passing through.
This is just an okay attraction to walk through. It’s a pretty short walk and looks much better at night but we arrived early on in the day so it felt plain. It’s next to a train station so it is cool to see a blend of art and infrastructure. The best part of this spot is the fountain at the end where you can make a wish, otherwise this is a 2-3 min detour that you shouldn’t plan on making a highlight of your day.

Arashiyama Kimono Forest is one of those spots in Kyoto that feels especially magical after dark. It’s a quick stop rather than a long visit, but it leaves a strong impression, especially when combined with a stroll around Arashiyama. The design is simple but incredibly striking up close, and it’s a great place for photos or just a quiet moment enjoying the atmosphere. Definitely worth seeing if you’re already in the area.

If you come to a full day of joy and excitement in Arashiyama, you'll be able to experience this kimono forest both at day time (normal kimono forest) and at night (illuminated kimono forest).
A few people asked me if I wanted them to take a picture of me and unfortunately I declined.
