A nice little surprise right at the train station — rows of illuminated kimono-patterned pillars that make for some really cool photos. Free to walk through and when we visited it was surprisingly quiet so we had the place mostly to ourselves. We saw it during the day but I imagine it looks even better at night when the pillars light up. Worth a quick stop if you’re passing through.

Arashiyama Kimono Forest is one of those spots in Kyoto that feels especially magical after dark. The illuminated kimono-patterned pillars lining the walkway create a soft, colourful glow that makes the whole area feel almost dreamlike. It’s a quick stop rather than a long visit, but it leaves a strong impression, especially when combined with a stroll around Arashiyama. The design is simple but incredibly striking up close, and it’s a great place for photos or just a quiet moment enjoying the atmosphere. Definitely worth seeing if you’re already in the area.
Kimono Forest is such a striking stop in Kyoto. The rows of colorful kimono-patterned pillars are even more impressive in person, and they make the whole area feel unique and photogenic. I also liked how easy it was to reach after getting off the Randen train. It’s a nice place to slow down for a moment and take in the atmosphere.

If you come to a full day of joy and excitement in Arashiyama, you'll be able to experience this kimono forest both at day time (normal kimono forest) and at night (illuminated kimono forest).
A few people asked me if I wanted them to take a picture of me and unfortunately I declined.
