Nanatanigawa Outdoor Activity Center, Kameoka

The Nanatanigawa Outdoor Activity Center is located in Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture, approximately one hour west of central Kyoto. This facility operates as a place for lifelong learning for Kameoka citizens while being widely open to visitors from outside the city. Positioned upstream along the Nanatani River, the center sits within an area known as Yawaragi no Michi, recognized as the premier cherry blossom viewing destination in the Tamba region.

The surrounding landscape features well over 1,000 cherry trees planted along just over half a mile of roadway parallel to the scenic Nanatani River. During spring, these trees create extensive pink and white vistas that have established the location as one of Japan's notable yet less crowded alternatives to Kyoto's busier sakura spots. The natural setting combines the flowing river, surrounding mountains, and expansive lawns that remain visually appealing throughout the seasons, from cherry blossom time to the fresh green period of early summer.

Visitors can engage in several outdoor activities at the center. Accommodation options include bringing personal tents to the lawn square, renting permanent tents, or staying in Sakura tree houses. The main camping area features a lawn square encircled by cherry blossom trees, with gravel walkways surrounding the grounds. BBQ facilities are available, and bonfire spaces are designated on gravel areas rather than the lawn. The site's layout makes it accessible even for those with limited driving experience, as the road to the facility remains flat throughout.

The center is located at 40 Chitose Minamiyama, Chitose Town, Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture. By car, it takes approximately 15 minutes from Shino IC or 10 minutes from Chiyogawa IC via the Kyoto Jukan Expressway. For public transport users, take the JR line to Kameoka Station, then board the Furusato Bus from the north exit for about 10 minutes to Nanatanigawa Bus Stop, followed by a 5-minute walk. Nearby shopping includes Matsumoto Central Store supermarket 8 minutes away by car and Family Mart convenience store 4 minutes away. The facility is closed on Tuesdays (or the following day if Tuesday falls on a holiday) and operates Monday through Thursday from December to February.
