This is my favorite viewpoint here in Chichijima. It has a panoramic view of the north and south part of the island accessible by a public trail starting from Kominato Beach.
You can also see the view of Buta Beach from the top. It is also the way going to John's Beach. I love having my picnic here. It was ao relaxing
I visited on March 20, 2026.
On the ferry ride there, there was a consultation session with island residents, and they strongly recommended Nakayama Pass, so I decided to go there.
I was already satisfied with the wonderful sandy beach of Kopepe Beach, but the view of Chichijima Island from Nakayama Pass was simply breathtaking. I asked several people, and they all said this was the best view.
It was so amazing that I took many similar photos, so I've uploaded them. Please take a look if you like.
The color of the sea seen from here is called "Bonin Blue." It's a truly beautiful azure that soothes the soul. And looking out at the sea, I could see whales spouting water, which made me feel even more like I was truly in the Ogasawara Islands.
It takes less than 20 minutes from the base of the mountain.
The narrow path near the summit is dangerous; if you accidentally fall towards the cliff, you're guaranteed to end up in "paradise." It's especially dangerous when the wind is strong. Please be careful.
[Reference] I couldn't rent an electric-assist bicycle from the city's rental cycle service, so I rented a regular bicycle, but I absolutely do not recommend it to the general public. Climbing the 10% incline at Komagari is extremely difficult. Always make a reservation, even outside of peak season.
If you've made it to Kominato Beach, I highly recommend making the effort to climb up here.
It's a continuous uphill climb, and although it's somewhat maintained, the footing isn't always good, so it's best to wear proper shoes.
From the Kominato Beach bus stop, don't go straight; instead, turn left at the foot-washing area (to prevent seeds and small creatures from being carried in with your shoes).
There is a rest area at the pass, but it's very small, so it's a good idea to bring something to protect yourself from the sun, such as a hat.
Don't forget to bring drinks.
The view from near the summit is absolutely breathtaking and irreplaceable.
Again, the footing is not good, so be especially careful not to fall on windy days.
An observation deck on the ridge of the walking path leading to Buta Beach.
The cool breeze and shade are pleasant in the hot sun.
To the north of the beach are Kominato and Kopepe.
A little further beyond the protruding Noyagiyama mountain are Futami Bay and the town of Chichijima.
Beyond the Weather Station are Anijima and Nishijima.
Mountains include Asahiyama and other mountains.
To the south...a short walk west from here will take you to Buta Beach, John Beach, and Minamijima.
The shade is pleasant, but some people are exhausted from getting here, so it's good to be considerate.
It's a place where you can just relax for a while.
