What other travelers are saying about National Takino Suzuran Hillside Park
Such a beautiful park 🧡 the autumn foliage was absolutely stunning 🍁 The space is huge, with both indoor and outdoor areas for children to play and explore. So glad we decided to rent a car and make the trip here with my child. It turned out to be one of the most memorable stops of our Sapporo trip 💛
28.10.2025 (9:30a.m. ~ 12:30p.m.) Best trip of my life , I managed to get to see the Red Kochia flowers with snow landscape , plus autumn trees in snow landscape. It’s like a mix of winter and autumn. Dream come true … ; just look at the photos, Speechless…
Came on July 28 2025.
Attended the Segway tour which consists of 45 minutes of training and a 1-2 hour tour across the park on the segway(highly recommended.).
Good scenery and there is an area for children to have fun with water parks, slides, inflatable castles and even a hill where they can play Sisyphus with a large red ball.
Good for family trips.
Visited on 31.10.2025 afternoon. A cloudy day so colors are not that vibrant but it gave a tranquil feel instead. I saw spectacular foliage on the bus 106 ride from Makomanai to Takino.
Beautiful flower garden! Went during the summer. You can spend about 1.5 hours here. Would combine with the waterfall and the cemetery or the Makomanai art museum.
The park operates on a seasonal schedule with varying hours: spring from April 20 to May 31 runs 9:00-17:00, summer from June 1 to August 31 extends to 9:00-18:00, fall from September 1 to November 10 returns to 9:00-17:00, and winter from December 23 to March 31 operates 9:00-16:00. The park closes during transition periods between November 11 to December 22 and April 1 to April 19.
The optimal viewing periods depend on which flowers you want to see. For vibrant tulip displays, mid-May is ideal, while late July to early August offers the best dahlia blooms. The late May period showcases tulips at their peak, and early September is popular for viewing cosmos flowers. The hillside flower gardens provide particularly photogenic scenes during these periods.
Skiing on six cross-country courses from 1 to 16 kilometers. A 250-meter ski slope with 7-degree gradient, with family lift tickets at ¥200 for adults and ¥150 for junior high students and younger. A 200-meter tube sledding course and free snowshoe rentals. Winter admission is free.
The park has restaurants located in the pay area, along with observation decks and other facilities. Restaurant facilities are available, and the park serves as a popular barbecue area in summer with ash disposal facilities and trailers for hauling gear. Bicycle rentals are available near the Masumi Guchi entrance for exploring the Keiryu Zone and reaching the waterfalls more easily. Ski equipment including skis, boots, and poles can be rented as a set, and ski wear is available for rent as well.
Visitors typically spend between half a day and a full day exploring the park's various zones, with families with children often wanting to allocate more time for playgrounds and winter activities. The park's 400-hectare size means there are multiple zones to explore, including the Country Garden, Kodomo no Tani children's area, Keiryu Zone with three waterfalls, and Takino Forest Zone. The amount of time needed depends on which zones you plan to visit and whether you participate in activities like cycling, skiing, or extensive hiking.
