Nobiru Sanso

Nobiru Sanso is a traditional Japanese mountain lodge located in the Zao mountain range in Miyagi Prefecture, approximately 1,100 meters above sea level. Originally established in the 1960s as a rest station for hikers and skiers exploring the Zao region, the lodge has maintained its rustic charm while serving as a gateway to one of Japan's most renowned alpine destinations.

The lodge sits within Zao Quasi-National Park, an area celebrated for its diverse ecosystems, hot springs, and the famous Okama crater lake. The surrounding landscape features ancient beech forests, alpine meadows, and volcanic terrain that has been shaped over thousands of years. Access to Nobiru Sanso requires traveling to Sendai by shinkansen, then taking local transportation to Togatta Onsen, followed by a 45-minute mountain road drive or seasonal shuttle service. The lodge operates year-round with overnight stays starting from ¥8,000 per person including two meals. Advance reservations are essential, particularly during peak seasons and weekends.
