A beautiful World Heritage Site renowned for its historic Gassho-style villages, built with steep prayer-hand roofs to survive heavy snow. If you want the ultimate postcard photo, the Ogimachi Castle Viewpoint is where you need to go. We walked all the way up the long climb to the observatory, and back down through the houses. The view from the top is fantastic!
When I decided to skip the shuttle bus and start walking I had no idea the path would be so beautiful but a steep climb too.
But once up the view is breathtaking and heard it looks more gorgeous when it snows.
I got my picture clicked by a studio setup as I was all alone and getting it done by then was the right choice.
A souvenir shop, ice cream shop and small cafe is available, so do sit and relax before heading down.

The Ogimachi Castle Observation Deck offers a fantastic panoramic view of the entire Shirakawa-go village. Seeing the iconic gassho-zukuri farmhouses from above really puts the layout of the village into perspective. The view is especially stunning when it snows — the village covered in white, with smoke rising gently from the rooftops, feels almost surreal and postcard-perfect.
The observation deck itself is simple but well maintained, with enough space to take photos and enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed.
The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it can get quite crowded during peak tourist seasons, and transport up can be limited. Still, it’s absolutely worth making the trip up for the view — particularly in winter, when the scenery is at its most magical.
You can climb up the short mountain trail which take about 12 minutes or take the shuttle bus. We climb up the moutain trail beacuse is faster. You must be careful because it is steep foot path with uneven stairs.
Up the observation deck the view was nice. You can see the Shirakawa Village. Coming down the observation deck we walk down using the road. From here we continue our journey visit the Shirakawa village.
