Okayama City South Village is an agricultural theme park located in southern Okayama City, designed to showcase rural Japanese farming culture and provide hands-on agricultural experiences. Opened in 1994, the facility spans 150 hectares and serves as both an educational center and recreational destination, promoting understanding of traditional and modern farming practices in the Okayama region.

The park celebrates Okayama Prefecture's agricultural heritage, particularly its renowned fruit cultivation including white peaches, muscat grapes, and various vegetables. South Village demonstrates sustainable farming methods while preserving traditional Japanese agricultural techniques that have been practiced in the fertile Okayama plains for centuries. The facility plays an important role in connecting urban residents with rural farming culture and promoting local agricultural products.

Visitors can participate in seasonal fruit picking, vegetable harvesting, and rice planting activities throughout the year. The park features working farms, greenhouses, and demonstration plots where guests can observe various crops and farming techniques. Additional attractions include a farmers market selling fresh local produce, restaurants serving farm-to-table cuisine using ingredients grown on-site, and workshops teaching traditional food preservation methods like pickle-making and miso preparation.

Spring offers strawberry picking and vegetable planting experiences, while summer features tomato and corn harvesting. Autumn is the peak season for fruit picking, including grapes, persimmons, and sweet potatoes, with the grape harvest typically running from August to October. Winter activities focus on indoor workshops and greenhouse cultivation demonstrations, making the park accessible year-round despite reduced outdoor farming activities.

South Village is accessible by car via the Sanyodo Expressway, approximately 30 minutes from central Okayama City. Public transportation requires taking the JR Uno Line to Bizen-Nishiichi Station, followed by a 15-minute taxi ride. The park operates daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with admission fees of ¥300 for adults and ¥100 for children. Additional charges apply for specific activities like fruit picking, which typically range from ¥500 to ¥1,500 depending on the season and type of produce. Free parking is available on-site for 500 vehicles.

Recently, the number of cafes, udon shops, and bakeries has increased, so I've been going there more often! The lotus root croquettes at the deli are delicious! 🪷 The large lawns make it a great place to take kids for walks, but the restrooms lack diaper changing stations or baby chairs, and many of the toilets are Japanese-style. I think the area would be even more accessible if the restrooms were updated and the parking lot were wider.

I visited for the first time because it was the cherry blossom festival. Admission was free. I went on a weekday Friday, so there weren't many stalls, but apparently there are many on weekends. I wanted to eat squid skewers, so I bought some, and they were tender and delicious. They kindly took and disposed of my trash after I finished eating. The cherry blossoms were almost in full bloom. Honestly, I thought the cherry blossoms would be spread over a wider area, but that wasn't the case, so it wasn't really a place for a leisurely stroll. The parking lot was large and easy to park in.
