I had originally planned to combine a stay at the Yamashien National Inn with cherry blossom viewing, but I couldn't get a reservation for a Japanese-Western style room, so I visited the park during the day without staying overnight.
The cherry blossoms, concentrated around the moat, were spectacular, and the park is a place where you can feel the arrival of spring without having to walk very far!
I went to Kano Castle Ruins Park to enjoy the cherry blossoms. It was a Friday, and there were quite a few cars in the parking lot, but thanks to the staff directing traffic, I was able to park. I thought the parking fee would be 500 yen, but it turned out to be a 500 yen maintenance and operating fee per person. First, I saw a signpost for the Kano Castle keep ruins, so I headed there. After climbing stairs and steep slopes for about 20 minutes, I arrived at the keep ruins. I thought the view would be good from the top, but it was obstructed by trees and bushes, so the view wasn't that great. There was also a rope blocking entry to the observation deck near Shiroyama Shrine along the way... I thought about going down to enjoy the cherry blossoms, but I wasn't sure of the way, and I couldn't find where they were collecting the 500 yen per person, so I didn't end up paying the 500 yen. There are cherry blossoms, a moat, and a red bridge, so it seems like I could take some good photos, but it wasn't that great. Maybe it's for locals?
The cherry blossoms are beautiful during the day, but they're also stunning at night when they're lit up.
Many people come to see them every year.
The paths are well-maintained, making it easy to walk, and there's parking nearby, which is a huge plus.
