Shokawasakura Park

4.2 (746)Tourist AttractionParkPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Shokawasakura Park is home to the legendary Shokawa Zakura, a cherry tree that's over 500 years old. This ancient tree isn't just any cherry blossom; it's a symbol of endurance, history, and nature's beauty. Originally, the tree stood in Shokawa Village, but when the Miboro Dam was built in the 1960s, the tree was at risk of being lost forever. The community took on the incredible challenge of moving this massive, centuries-old tree to its current location, saving it from the rising waters.

Every spring, the Shokawa Zakura bursts into bloom, with its delicate pink petals creating a stunning contrast against the still snow-capped mountains. The sight is nothing short of breathtaking, drawing visitors from near and far who come to witness this living piece of history. The park itself is peaceful, a place where the past meets the present, where nature's beauty is on full display.

What other travelers are saying about Shokawasakura Park

out of my expectations This is such a beautiful place I am so lucky to have the weather like this Very cold and wet, so many cloud flowing between the mountains gaps. The water is as peaceful as a baby sleeping. Perfect timing for the perfect place.

Here not to review about the park but wanted to comment on the route itself. Very scenic route of the Miboro Lake, would recommend this route when heading towards Shirakawa-Go. Might take a little longer as it is not a highway and there is many twist and bends in this journey but extremely worth if you are driving yourself there. There are quite a few parking spots on the way to allow people to stop and take photos. Snow tires are recommended if driving in the winter. Leads directly to Shirakawa-Go Heritage Spot Parking lot, very seamless route. Super recommended over the highway if anybody is having a dilemma.
A beautiful place to enjoy Sakura. I went there post the peak , still could njoy the Sakura petals falling during winds. Serene.
This is a scenic park with beautiful panoramic views of the Miboroko Lake and the surrounding mountains. What is even more special about this park is that there are 2 cherry trees that are 500 years old. These trees were transported from the grounds of Shorenji temple and Korinji temple. and transplanted in the Shogawazakura park when the construction of Miboro dam threatened their existence.
Nice park with great views. The route offers a fantastic and scenic drive.
