🌸 Capturing Late Spring at Showa Kinen Park
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I visited the Poppy Hills last Wednesday, (May 27,2026) and it was absolutely breathtaking. If you want to experience the true transition from spring into early summer, this is the spot to be.
🌺The Scenery: The rolling hills were completely transformed into a vibrant sea of red, pink, and orange poppies. Walking along the designated paths felt incredibly immersive, with flowers stretching out as far as the eye could see. It is an absolute dream for photography.
🌺The Atmosphere: Even on a weekday, the park had a wonderful, relaxed energy. The open spaces make it easy to find a quiet spot to just take in the view, enjoy a cool drink, or snap photos without crowds blocking every angle.
✅Pro Tip: Showa Kinen Park is massive! Renting a bicycle at the gate or hopping on the park train is highly recommended if you want to save your energy for wandering through the flower fields themselves.
A spectacular seasonal highlight that is well worth the trip. I will definitely be making this an annual tradition! ❤️🇯🇵
We had such a wonderful time at the Japanese Garden inside Showa Kinen Park in Tachikawa. The whole place felt incredibly peaceful, with beautifully maintained landscapes, vibrant floral displays, and a lovely central pond surrounded by a relaxing strolling path.
What made our visit extra special was that it was cherry blossom season. Seeing the sakura in full bloom added so much color and charm—it honestly felt magical just walking around and taking it all in.
The atmosphere was calm, the scenery was stunning, and every corner seemed picture-perfect. If you’re planning to visit, I’d definitely recommend going right when it opens. It’s much quieter, and you can really enjoy the beauty of the garden without the crowds.
Surprisingly large, spectacular park.
Clean and so well-maintained.
One of the best spots around Tokyo to visit during springtime, especially if you want to see cherry blossoms, tulips, daffodils, and more. Will take you the whole day to cover the area by foot, but is indeed worth it. Visited the area earlier than usual, last week of March, most of the flowers are not yet in bloom, especially the tulips. Try visiting early to mid-April to enjoy the peak blooming season. Entrance is not free, adult tickets cost 450 yen each. Has different access points (Tachikawa, Nishi-Tachikawa, Akebono, Sunagawa, and Tamagawa Josui), with Nishi-Tachikawa and Tachikawa Gates being the most convenient and popular, around 2 mins and 20 mins walk, respectively, from nearest train station.
Very large, well maintained, and beautiful park in Tokyo. It is breathtaking in the spring and fall but can be enjoyed all year round. It was a wonderful Japanese garden with amazing bonsai - even one that is 400 years old. There also playgrounds, food stalls, and a train to take you around. Come, relax and enjoy.
Absolutely beautiful park during spring time! Also you can use your Suica/Pasmo cards to pay for the entrance. The park is huge so even with so many people you wouldn’t feel too crowded. Though the areas where the tulips and other flowers were filled with a lot of people. But there are other areas as well where you can relax and enjoy nature. Definitely worth a visit especially during spring time.
