Snow Park Yeti is Japan's largest outdoor ski resort, located on the southern slopes of Mount Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture. The resort opened in 1985 and has since established itself as one of the most accessible winter sports destinations from Tokyo and central Japan. Its name derives from the legendary Himalayan creature, chosen to evoke the excitement of mountain adventure and winter sports.

The resort's primary significance lies in its exceptional location offering views of Mount Fuji, a UNESCO World Heritage site, while skiing or snowboarding. Spanning approximately 4 kilometers of slopes with a vertical drop of 560 meters, Yeti operates one of the longest seasons in Japan, typically from mid-October through early April. This extended season is made possible by advanced snowmaking systems covering the entire resort, ensuring consistent conditions even when natural snowfall is limited.

Visitors can choose from four courses catering to different skill levels, from beginner-friendly gentle slopes to more challenging runs for advanced skiers and snowboarders. The resort attracts both serious winter sports enthusiasts and families, with dedicated areas for snow play and sledding. Equipment rental facilities are comprehensive, offering skis, snowboards, wear, and accessories for those traveling without their own gear. The resort also features ski and snowboard schools with instruction available in Japanese and limited English.

Admission operates on a lift ticket system, with one-day lift passes typically priced around ¥4,000-5,000 for adults, with discounted rates for children, seniors, and afternoon-only skiing. Various multi-day and season pass options are available for frequent visitors.

Snow Park Yeti is located approximately 90 kilometers from Tokyo, making it one of the closest ski resorts to the capital. By car, the journey takes roughly 90 minutes via the Tomei Expressway, exiting at Susono Interchange. Direct shuttle buses operate from Mishima Station on the JR Tokaido Shinkansen line and Gotemba Station on the JR Gotemba Line, with the journey taking approximately 40-50 minutes. During peak winter weekends and holidays, additional bus services run from major Tokyo stations.

Traveler reviews

I had such a great time at Yeti! It was my first time experiencing snow, and it was such a fun and memorable moment. We went around 4PM on a weekend, and there weren’t many people, which made the experience even better. It gets really cold at night tho so make sure to bring warm clothes if you’re planning to visit.

The slopes were really nice, especially for beginners. It can be a little crowded at the top. Overall I had a great time and seeing Mount Fuji at the back is such a surreal experience!
I have read reviews, and has contemplated to come because we came too early in winter to have snow. But actually having to come here oursleves, we enjoyed it so much! Yes there’s only patches of snow from snow-makers, and only 2 sections open. But if you have kids, just bring them here. Forget about the reviews, you’ll enjoy it
I had my very first ski lesson here, and it was such a lovely experience! I took a beginner lesson with an instructor who was really helpful and patient. I also spent some time trying on my own to get used to the skis – though I still have a lot to learn (I kept falling and accidentally going sideways instead of straight down the slope 😅). The facility has all the necessary equipment, which made things super convenient. And the view of Mt. Fuji while skiing? Absolutely breathtaking – definitely the highlight of the day! 🌄 Overall, a fantastic introduction to skiing. I’ll definitely be back for more practice!
