The building itself is quite impressive, and the contents inside the building are equal to it. There is a lot to see here, with exhibits spanning multiple floors. It's very spacious and quiet if you need to get away from the city life.
I visited on a day it happened to be pouring rain so it was a nice place to seek shelter for a few hours while waiting for the rain to pass.
Photos are allowed for most of the exhibits and there are many points along the way that you can sit and relax. There is also a cafe selling coffee, pastries and noodle dishes.
So we arrived the day they were changing exhibits, so everything "zenbu" was closed. Love the fact that the notice was written in French. We gallantly retreated to the café and enjoyed an excellent udon and opéra, with real liqueur in it, in a very nice environment. Funnily enough quite a few locals came to join in this nice little break
The main exhibition is OK. I would recommend to check in advance if there is an interesting temporary exhibition before getting to this part of the town. Especially if you don't have car
Interesting art museum and nice cafe but do not be fooled by the basic free entry. At the time of my visit for most of the exhibitions you had to pay an entry fee of over 1000JPY multiple times to be able to visit the major part of the museum. Not essentially bad but a bit misleading and you have to consider not many rooms were in use even though the museum looks big on the outside. Good for on a rainy day, but otherwise not a must-see for the average tourist.
The Art Museum itself is a beautiful space, truly exceptional. The exhibit was okay.
