Washigatake Ski Area, Gujo

Washigatake Ski Area spreads across the foothills of Mount Washigatake, recognized as one of Japan's 300 Famous Mountains, in the Takasu region of Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture. The resort has established itself as a popular winter destination within the broader Takasu ski area, which hosts multiple ski facilities. Operating from early December through late March, the resort opens its slopes daily with occasional overnight skiing sessions on Saturdays during peak season.

The ski area features 13 trails with a maximum skiing distance of 3,500 meters and a vertical descent of 440 meters. The terrain caters to all skill levels, with 30% beginner slopes, 40% intermediate runs, and 30% advanced trails. The resort's signature feature is its 400-meter-wide main trail, providing exceptional visibility and space for skiers. The facility utilizes Japan's largest ice crusher to prepare slopes, ensuring early season opening. The resort has become particularly renowned for its terrain park, the largest in the Takasu area, featuring the famous Washigatake Kicker with jumps ranging from 1 meter for beginners to over 10 meters for advanced riders, along with boxes and rails.

Visitors can access rental equipment including ski and snowboard sets, wear, and accessories, with full-day and half-day options available. Multiple ski schools operate on-site, including SAJ and JSBA official schools, as well as specialized programs for international visitors. The Kids Park offers a 30-meter sled course and the Pandaruman Adventure Square for children's skiing practice, complemented by the White Adventure tubing course. After skiing, guests can relax at Washinoyu, the day-use bathing facility located in the center house, or stay at the Washigatake Kogen Hotel Rainbow with direct slope access.

The resort is located 3 kilometers from Takasu Interchange on the Tokai Hokuriku Expressway, making it one of the most accessible ski areas in the region with just a five-minute drive from the exit. Parking accommodates 3,000 vehicles at 1,000 yen for ordinary cars and 2,000 yen for buses. Various lift ticket options are available, including single-resort passes and the Washitopia set ticket allowing access to both Washigatake and WhitePia Takasu for a combined 26 trails.
