Yumeminato Tower was constructed in 1997 as a centerpiece attraction for the Japan Expo Tottori '97, which was held from July 12 to September 28, 1997. The exposition ran for 79 days, and while most of the fair's attractions were dismantled, Yumeminato Tower remains as a permanent symbol of the event. Located in Sakaiminato City in Tottori Prefecture, the tower was built on the site of what is now Yumeminato Park.

The tower features distinctive architecture with completely glass-paned outer walls and steel pillars creating a white frame in complex geometric patterns. Standing 43 meters tall, the tower serves as the centerpiece of Yumeminato Park and offers panoramic views of the Sea of Japan and Mount Daisen from its observation room. The tower represents the international spirit of the original exposition and serves as a gateway symbol for the San'in region.

Visitors can experience multiple attractions within the tower's facilities. The tower houses an exhibition room where guests can try on traditional ethnic costumes from Mongolia, Korea, China, and Russia completely free of charge. The Minatomachi market, selected as one of Japan's Top 100 souvenir facilities by professionals, sells local Tottori Prefecture specialties and regional products. The fourth floor features an observation cafe where visitors can dine while enjoying sweeping views of the coastline.

Adjacent to the tower, the Minato Hot Spring Hall offers visitors the opportunity to relax in open-air baths. The surrounding Yumeminato Park provides additional recreational space and serves as Sakaiminato City's main public park. The area connects visitors to broader regional attractions and serves as a convenient base for exploring the Sea of Japan coastline and Mount Daisen.

Admission to Yumeminato Tower costs 300 yen for adults (high school students and above), 150 yen for children (elementary and junior high school students), with free entry for preschool children. The tower is accessible by public transportation, with bus connections available from nearby stations. Sakaiminato City is served by Yonago Airport, located approximately 15 minutes by car from the tower, making it accessible for domestic and international visitors exploring the Tottori Prefecture region.

Traveler reviews

A nice tower with a great view on a nice day. There is a conference center attached on the first level. The third level has a theater that shows a good short clip if you have the time. Additionally there is an exhibit showcasing Mongolia, Korea, China, and Russia. The fourth floor tower cafe is a good spot to just relax and grab a drink or a bite to eat.

Sakaiminato Yume Minato Ferry Terminal – Gateway to Rural Japan’s Coastal Charm Sakaiminato Yume Minato Ferry Terminal is more than just a port — it’s a well-organized and welcoming gateway to some of the most authentic and undiscovered regions of Japan. Conveniently located next to Showa South Quay, it serves as a main hub for cruise ships docking along the Sea of Japan and acts as the launchpad for excursions into both Shimane and Tottori Prefectures. The terminal itself is clean, efficient, and traveler-friendly. Staff are helpful, signage is clear (with some English available), and there’s decent Wi-Fi access, making communication smooth even for international travelers. The waiting area is comfortable, and there are local souvenir shops and restrooms available. From the terminal, guests can easily connect to curated tours, guided experiences, and cultural encounters in the surrounding regions. What makes this terminal special is not just its function, but its location — perfectly placed between Shimane’s spiritual and craft-rich countryside (including places like Okuizumo and Matsue) and Tottori’s dramatic coastline and sand dunes. It’s ideal for travelers seeking to explore the lesser-known, rural side of Japan without the crowds. Whether you’re stepping off a cruise ship or setting out on a local ferry, Sakaiminato Yume Minato Terminal offers a smooth transition into some of the most beautiful, cultural, and nature-rich areas Japan has to offer. Tip: If you’re joining an excursion from here, don’t miss the chance to meet local guides who offer in-depth storytelling and immersive activities like knife-making, soba workshops, or sake tasting — a perfect introduction to the soul of the San’in region.
Really nice waterfront, but not really much to see. You can see mini mount fuji, rent bikes, walk the waterfront, buy some souveniers, use the washroom, take a pi of the ship...
Tower with good view in reasonable price
This place was really nice! Probably would have been better if I was on a date though. Haha I am a foreigner and I was able to get a discount when I showed my passport. Normal price is ¥300 and the discounted price was half off. On a clear day, you can see Mount Daisen from the tower. You can also make a keychain with your name on it. The instructions were in Japanese but with a little google translate, most anything is possible.
