What other travelers are saying about Hakone Ropeway
A great way to see the area by taking the ropeway. The ropeway did not shake a lot. There can be a challenge of waiting in the long lineup.
A must visit if you’re in the area. We opted for the Hakone 2 day pass which included the ropeway and train ride.
The Hakone Ropeway ride takes approximately 30 minutes one way. It covers about 4 kilometers, offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, Lake Ashi, and on clear days, Mount Fuji.
Yes, the Hakone cable car is definitely worth it. It offers scenic views of the region, including the picturesque Owakudani volcanic valley and Lake Ashi. It's a relaxing way to take in the natural beauty of Hakone and is a highlight for many visitors.
Yes, you can see Mount Fuji from the Hakone Ropeway on clear days. The view from the section between Owakudani and Togendai stations is particularly stunning, where Mount Fuji can be seen in all its glory.
The Hakone Ropeway starts at Sounzan Station. From there, it travels to Owakudani, Ubako, and ends at Togendai Station near Lake Ashi.
The Hakone Ropeway is not inherently a round trip, but you can make it part of a round trip itinerary. You can travel from Sounzan to Togendai and then take a boat cruise on Lake Ashi or continue your journey on the Hakone Tozan Railway to complete a circular tour of the area.
I reached Sounzan Station by cable car from Gora, and it was such a chill stop! You can sit back, relax, and check out some cute merch while waiting. From here, you can continue your trip using the Hakone Ropeway. Totally recommend getting the Hakone Pass — it’s super worth it since you can hop on all the transport modes without extra cost.
We took the ropeway from Sounzan to Togendai Station. Very cool views and you can't beat seeing Owakudani from above. There were plenty of seats in the gondola and we appreciated that they did not pack too many people into the car. Highly recommend!
Want to get out of the Tokyo and have a very unique and eye opening experience? Hakone didn’t disappoint! The doorway was so beautiful and was incredible to see the sulfur pits, gorgeous view of mt Fuji, and the surrounding forest! You can get on and off at the sulfur pits and at the lake which has stunning trails going around the entire lake. Would 💯 recommend!
Our journey from Sounzan Station via the Hakone Ropeway was truly exhilarating. The ascent offered fantastic views, and the stop at the summit provided a unique perspective of the volcanic landscape. From there, we continued our aerial descent to Togendai Pier, the perfect jumping-off point to further explore the beauty of Hakone, including the serene Hakone Shrine and the iconic Peace Torii. This seamless combination of transportation and sightseeing made for a wonderfully memorable experience.
