  • Matsumoto Castle includes steep and narrow stairs, and climbing to the top floor is optional.

  • Walking trails in Kamikochi are mostly flat and easy to follow.

  • Free time is included in Kamikochi, and guests must return on time as instructed by the guide.

  • This tour is not suitable for wheelchairs or guests with limited mobility.

Additional Information

  • Meetup points are Hotel Kokusai 21 at 07:50, Nagano Station at 08:15, and Matsumoto Station at 09:45.

  • Guests must arrive early as the tour departs on time and cannot wait.

  • The tour ends at Matsumoto Station around 18:30 and Nagano Station around 20:00 to 20:15.

  • Return times may vary depending on traffic conditions.

  • Guests may end the tour in Kamikochi at 17:00 if continuing independently.

  • It is recommended to book onward transport after 19:00 from Matsumoto and 20:45 from Nagano.

The castle interior includes steep and narrow wooden staircases, which can be challenging for some guests. Climbing is optional, and those who prefer not to go inside can remain outside and enjoy the castle grounds at their own pace.

Guests will take part in a guided walk of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes along a mostly flat trail, followed by additional free time of around 1 hour and 30 minutes. The paths are well-maintained and suitable for most visitors with a basic level of fitness.

Lunch is not included in the tour. Guests will have free time at Nawate-dori Street to purchase food. There are many local options available, including snacks and light meals.

Children can join the tour, but parents should note that there is a fair amount of walking and some steep stairs inside Matsumoto Castle. The tour is best suited for children who are comfortable with walking and following a full-day schedule.

Guests should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring layered clothing. The weather can change throughout the day, especially in Kamikochi, so a light jacket and rain protection are recommended.

A tour that was given by an enthusiastic guide! He had a lot of knowledge of the castle and its history! Kamikochi was breathtakingly beautiful and felt very serene.

Autumn foliage in Kamikochi
We had a great time the entire day. Our guide Joyce was very knowledgeable and she made sure every one was involved and had fun. She gave us insights on history of the Matsumoto castle along with few fun facts. Entire journey she was kind enough to answer all the questions related to Japan history and culture. Autumn foliage was mesmerising and it was perfect time to enjoy the nature's beauty in Kamikochi. Entire trail walk was easy with breath taking views. Highly recommend this day tour.
