What other travelers are saying about Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa
If you have 1–2 hours of free time in Tokyo and are traveling with a young child under 5, I think Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa is a good option. The aquarium is not very large and there aren’t many marine animals, so adults might feel that it’s a bit simple.
However, for young children, the size feels just right and they can still really enjoy the experience. The dolphin show is not very spectacular, but it was full of smiles and laughter, which made it special in its own way.
I visited on a weekday and didn’t buy tickets in advance, and it wasn’t crowded at all. Overall, it’s a nice place to stop by if you’re nearby and want a relaxed, kid-friendly activity.

The dolphin show was fun, watched the day and night performance, not much difference with lighting tbh, but was nice to watch dolphins again. Slightly busy on a Friday, I wouldn't come if there's a crowd as the place is pretty small and price is pretty high vs the amount of time to spend spend. Stroller friendly, we walked around with it, there is one elevator to go between 1f to 2f.
All the enclosures need to be bigger!!!
It's depressing seeing the seal being forced to swim in a tiny oval space.
Same for other larger fishes like sharks and stingray, the wall is so close to the tunnel there is not enough tank for them to use.
Sea otter for some reason is in a space the size of a large fish tank with some tunnels to additional space but they are all tiny.
The tortoise is just sad with a tiny space for heat lamp and a tiny water area basically a puddle... Even though it does have a larger walking space compared to others...
Anyways, I think this place was built to make the area an entertaining area for prince hotels there... Feels very forced yet expensive.
Highly recommended! We visited another aquarium before, this one is different as it has a show that you can watch for free. They run every 1 hour or so. My 1 year old son really enjoyed it. There is also a carousel although I must say the fish varieties is quite small, lots of jelly fish though. Overall it was good, there is a queue when we came during public holiday so recommend to come during weekday so you can take your time and see everything.
Fabulous aquarium! The caretakers were meticulously cleaning and tending to the animals. Easy to navigate, so fun for all ages from toddlers to elders. They have 2 rides, a carousel and swinging pirate ship, fun for kids (and kids at heart). Learn about aquatic life, and watch the dolphins perform. They have sharks, jellyfish, otters, penguins, piranhas, rays and so much more. The animals all seemed happy and plump! Aqua based menu and snacks was a fun way to have a treat with the displays. A must see for anyone interested in marine life!
