Nakanoshima Park

Nakanoshima Park stands as Osaka's first public park, established in 1891 during the Meiji era. Located on the narrow sandbank island of Nakanoshima, which sits between the Dojima and Tosabori rivers in central Osaka, the park has served as a vital green space in the city's urban core for over 130 years. The park underwent significant renovation and reopened in 2009 with improved facilities and landscaping that preserved its historical character while modernizing its amenities.

The park's centerpiece is its renowned rose garden, which features approximately 3,700 rose bushes representing around 310 varieties. The collection includes both classic European roses and modern hybrid varieties, creating spectacular displays during the peak blooming seasons in mid-May and mid-October. Beyond the roses, the park showcases seasonal plantings and mature trees that provide shade and natural beauty throughout the year. The location on Nakanoshima island places visitors in the heart of Osaka's cultural district, surrounded by notable architecture including the Osaka City Central Public Hall and the Museum of Oriental Ceramics.

Visitors can stroll along paved pathways that wind through the rose gardens and along the riverbanks, offering views of the surrounding cityscape and waterways. The park serves as a popular spot for lunch breaks among local office workers, romantic walks, and photography, particularly during rose season when the gardens are at their most vibrant. Benches throughout the park provide resting spots, and the open lawns accommodate casual picnicking. The combination of natural beauty and urban convenience makes it an accessible retreat without leaving the city center.

The park is located in Kita Ward and is easily accessible via multiple subway stations. Yodoyabashi Station on the Midosuji Line and Keihan Main Line sits at the eastern end of the park, while Naniwabashi Station on the Keihan Nakanoshima Line provides access to the western section. Kitahama Station on the Sakaisuji Line is also nearby. The park extends along Nakanoshima island for approximately 500 meters.

What other travelers are saying about Nakanoshima Park

15th November 2025 14°C night. I brought a friend here after coming here for the first time a week prior. I fell in love with this place and decided to come back for 2nd round. The illumination were beautiful, complemented by both the river and the night sky. The was also a water fountain display with music too. Definitely will be back here again. I felt a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is a one of the best place to heal and de-stress yourself after a hard week of work !

out of my 5days in osaka.. I've took morning walks in this park every day. its one of best parks ive been. on the island in the city, like the name, the vibe is very chill and people are there running, drawing, taking photos, walking dogs, making tiktok dance videos, sleeping(homeless person), taking marriage photos, taking model photos, biking, dating, and everything in between. this is what a park should be... if I lived in osaka I would try to live near this location. its a vibe forreal. I enjoyed myself even in the winter, so imagine how it will be in the summer wow. its beautiful

after finishing my coffee at Brooklyn, I visited this park. it’s located just across the coffee shop, separated by a river, so it was within walking distance. when I got to the park, some of the flowers were already in bloom. it was so beautiful, the flower beds were full of vibrant colors. everyone was taking pictures of them. the park is also perfect if you just want to chill on the grass or go for a run. I wish I had worn my workout clothes, I definitely would’ve gone for a run in that beautiful green space.
