What other travelers are saying about Road Station Kirishima Mythical Village Park
Worth the admission as the view from top is speculator. Ride up is 200 yen and I would suggest the lift with buggies to come down the hill, additional 600 yen You can pay 100 yen to feed the bunnies. We came and there was no wait at all
The park is built around the legend of Ninigi-no-Mikoto, who according to Shinto tradition descended from heaven to Mount Kirishima to establish Japan's imperial lineage. The location is considered the mythical birthplace of Japan, and the park's exhibitions explore these creation stories documented in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki texts, making it a significant cultural site for understanding Japan's legendary origins.
While the facility primarily caters to domestic travelers with most signage in Japanese, the observation tower and scenic views are universally enjoyable. Some basic English explanations are available in the exhibition hall, and the visual displays about mythology can be partially understood without language skills. The local products marketplace and restaurant can be navigated with minimal Japanese using point-and-order methods.
Yes, the marketplace offers an extensive selection of regional specialties including Kirishima shochu (distilled spirits), locally grown sweet potatoes and their derivative products, black pork items, traditional crafts, and seasonal agricultural products. The shop serves as one of the area's main outlets for authentic Kirishima souvenirs and food products, with prices typically ranging from ¥500 to ¥3,000 for most items.
Most visitors spend 1-2 hours at the facility, which includes browsing the exhibition hall, climbing the observation tower, shopping for local products, and having a meal or snack. If you're simply using it as a rest stop without visiting the cultural attractions, 30 minutes is sufficient. Those deeply interested in Japanese mythology or planning to dine leisurely might extend their visit to 2-3 hours.
While the park is most easily reached by car via National Route 223, public transportation is available but limited. Buses run from Kirishima Jingu Station 3-4 times daily, and the journey takes approximately 25 minutes. However, the infrequent schedule means careful planning is required, and many visitors find rental cars or taxis (approximately ¥3,000 from Kirishima Jingu Station) more practical for including the park in a broader Kirishima area itinerary.
Small park with train riding and gliding experience. Suggest to spend around 1 hour here to take all the rides, as the gliding is quite fun to play with. The place is good for taking photos too as it's located on the mountain with a nice view.
Plenty of parking and take the train up. It’s Quite entertaining riding the lift up and enjoy the beautiful along and on top. Taking the slide down was fun but somewhat short. Most people will take the stairs back down to the parking area.
A very beautiful place. Although there are not many facilities, you can enjoy the huge grassland freely. The restaurant provides a high quality bbq meat set with salad bar at reasonable price. You can see the volcano if the weather is good.
Free parking lots at the entrance of the park. 200yen for one trip of the train, and 500 yen for both the cable and slide. Recommend to walk down to the car park by stairs (501 staircases). The view is spectacular. Came two hours later after heavy rain. Most visitors are Hong Kongese.
