This was one of my favourite places in Tokyo! I was tempted here by a review that said it was the best view of the city, and yet it's FREE! I agree that it is the best view, both in terms of height and location within central Tokyo. You can go up either the south or north tower, or both! I went up the south tower, and think if you only have time to do one, it will give you the best view. Sadly, it was overcast, so despite knowing where Mt. Fuji was from the guides around the edge, we couldn't see it.
It is very spacious, and wasn't particularly busy. There is a souvenir shop and cafe. There was also a piano available for public use, and thanks to some very talented people, it was lovely to just sit and enjoy some music while waiting for the sun to go down.
The building itself is a stunning design, and if you wait until the evening, you can see the free light show, which I didn't stay for.
I only waited about 5 mins for the lift to go up as it wasn't particularly busy at around 3pm. There were more queues to go down, but just time it right and you don't wait long.
I'd thoroughly recommend this as a free alternative to the Sky Tower.
We had the pleasure of visiting this buidling on two different occasions.
Once during the day and the other at night.
During the day, we went up for a quick tour and to check the view.
We had a guide with us who was answering our questions and giving us a plethora of useful information.
The view is great from up there.
We also enjoyed some drinks while up there.
During the night, you have the privilege of viewing the World's Largest Projection Mapping show.
It lasts roughly 15 minutes and displayed every 30 minutes on the 0 & 30 of every hour from 6 pm to 930 pm (please confirm the times as it changes depending on the seasons).
The projection show was amazing and unlike anything I've seen before (displayed on the Twin Towers).
It's worth mentioning that we watched 2 shows, and they were both different.
It's possible that they have more shows as well.
Best of all, the entry into the building, the guide, and the show are all free.
This is great for those traveling on a budget or parents with kids.
Overall, it was a great experience and worth your time, especially at sundown/night.
For incredible view across Tokyo, head to the Tokyo Met Government building. On the 45th floor of both towers is an amazing enclosed observation deck, highlighting some of the major buildings in the city.
Before riding the elevator, you will be asked to open bags for a quick, polite search (well it is a government building, so not unexpected).
The ride up to the observation deck takes but a couple of minutes.
On a clear day, you can spot the peak of Mt Fuji!
Take some time to indulge in a bit of souvenir shopping… beautiful selection.
This building also puts on a fantastic light show at night!
Oh the best bit….. accessing the observation decks on either tower is absolutely free! Well done Tokyo Met Government building! A must visit!
A free and relaxed way to see the entire city of Tokyo from way up in the sky. I did not have a chance to visit the Skytree, but this experience did me proud in terms of showcasing the entire city from up in the air. I went on a sunny day, so I was even able to see Mount Fuji!
The views I was able to take in will live in my memory forever, and I highly recommend a visit to this building for all tourists and locals alike!
This is one of my favorite places. The observation tower at the city hall is on the 45th floor, offering a stunning 210-degree view of Tokyo. Although there was a long line to get into the elevator, the admission is free. The best time to visit is during sunset.
