Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls Prefectural Park

4.3 (200)Tourist AttractionPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls Prefectural Park is a hidden gem in Takayama. This park is home to a collection of waterfalls, each with its own unique character, spread over a 1.5-kilometer trail. The falls aren't exactly forty-eight in number; it's more of a symbolic name, but there are around 13 main cascades to discover, with smaller streams adding to the charm.

The largest of these, Utsue Fall, is a stunning sight, where water plunges down from the rocks, creating a misty spray that cools the air. The park is lush, filled with greenery that thrives in the moist environment provided by the flowing water. Wooden bridges and steps make it easy to get up close to the falls, offering different perspectives and perfect spots for photography.

What other travelers are saying about Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls Prefectural Park

A true hidden gem! My 4 years old can go up to level 9 (out of 13 level). The trail is challenging enough to be fun for everyone 4-60 years old. Ticket cost 200 yen for adults and 100 yen for kids. Plenty of parking space.
Wonderful experience and with waterfalls accompanying the hike. Comfortable footwear recommended as the path can be quite uneven, with quite a lot of stairs(rocky) to conquer. It’s so soothing to be in the nature. After the descent, we went into the visitor center to rest, there is free tea available. The employee at the visitor center was very hospitable and he made us feel very comfortable. Thank you!
Nice trail with stunning viewpoints of the waterfalls and the mountains. It's worth coming only on a sunny day in spring or fall.

Beautiful area! We visited just the other day, and the snow was knee-deep, so we only went halfway up. No other people there at all. (March 18, 2024) Bring boots if you’re going to attempt this in the winter months.
