A fantastic hiking route, a must-pass from Nishiitoya to Taisho Pond, offering beautiful scenery along the way. The Kamikochi Weston Monument is erected to commemorate the British missionary and mountaineer Walter Weston. He introduced Western mountaineering to Japan and, through his writings, made the "Japanese Alps" and the stunning scenery of Kamikochi world-renowned.
Location: Located on the left bank of the Azusa River, between Kappa Bridge and Tashiro Bridge.
Access: From the Kamikochi Bus Terminal, it's about a 20-25 minute walk downstream along the Azusa River.
Nearby Highlights: Next to the monument is the Weston Garden, where the "Weston Festival" is held annually in June to commemorate his contributions to Japanese mountaineering.
