Well lit on night, even the garden is not big but atmosphere is good. Not so far from Niigata city but if public transport, need to well check on train timetable.
Sadly when I visited, Yahiko shrine area had experienced an unusually warm summer which caused the autumn leaves to come really late. As such all I could see was green. However I still did get some stunning photos with transitional foliage and whatever red leaves there were. If I had another chance in the future I would definitely try and visit again at the peak of the autumn foliage as I believe it would look absolutely wonderful. Oh there was a night light up which I missed too due to visiting in the morning. Do plan accordingly if you wish to see the night light up.
I prefer the imori pond over momiji valley here - perhaps because it wasn't fully red leaves yet! They do have it illuminated when it gets dark.
Beautiful and peaceful park. Not too big but sizeable enough for an hour or two walk. Best in autumn with the maple trees scattered all over the park, early to mid-November. The lightup during autumn is also a much visited and awaited by locals and tourists alike.
