Takayama Old Town & Shirakawa-go 1-Day Tour from Takayama

Meet your guide just outside the ticket gates at JR Takayama Station, near the walkway beside a decorative carving of an ornate wagon. Look for a Snow Monkey Resorts tour tag. The tour departs on time, so please be at the meeting point by 09:00.

Enter the Takayama Jinya for a guided tour of one of Japan's only surviving Edo-period government outposts. Walk through official chambers, private quarters used by high-ranking officials, a traditional Japanese garden, and rooms displaying historical artifacts — all within the original 300-year-old building.

Walk through the Sanmachi, Takayama's historic downtown, passing traditional wooden merchant buildings, sake breweries, and local craft shops. The walk concludes at the entrance to the Miyagawa Morning Market.

Explore the market and the surrounding area independently. Browse stalls selling local produce, crafts, and regional specialties, and use this time for lunch at nearby restaurants or food stalls. Local sake tasting and Hida wagyu dishes are available for guests who are interested.

Begin at the famous hilltop viewpoint overlooking the entire village, then descend with your guide into the lanes and rice paddies below. Your guide will explain the history of the village and the distinctive gassho-zukuri farmhouse construction throughout. Then, explore the village independently. Step inside any open farmhouses, browse local shops along the main street, or walk the quiet lanes at your own pace. Your guide will remain nearby throughout. 

The tour concludes at Takayama Station. Guests on the Kanazawa transfer will be dropped off at approximately 18:40.
