What license do I need to drive in Japan?

Most visitors need an International Driving Permit issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention, together with their local license and passport. Holders of licenses from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco, or Taiwan can instead bring a certified Japanese translation of their license, and U.S. military personnel can drive with SOFA documentation.

Do I drive the car myself?

Yes. This is a self-drive experience: you drive the car while following a lead guide vehicle the whole way, so no navigation is needed.

Why run the tour at midnight?

Late at night the expressways are at their clearest, so you experience the Wangan route at its best. Daikoku is calmer too, and the Umihotaru observation deck gives you the bay views almost to yourself.

How many people fit in the car?
