Fujiten Snow Resort

4.1 (3635)Ski ResortTourist AttractionSports Activity LocationPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Fujiten Snow Resort is located on the northern slopes of Mount Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture, sitting at an elevation of approximately 1,300 to 1,500 meters. The resort opened in 1988 and has since become one of the closest ski facilities to central Tokyo, positioned just 90 kilometers from the capital. Its proximity to Japan's most iconic mountain provides visitors with spectacular views of Mount Fuji's northern face while skiing or snowboarding, a perspective rarely seen from other angles.

The resort's significance lies primarily in its accessibility and its unique vantage point overlooking the Fuji Five Lakes region. Unlike southern-facing resorts, Fujiten benefits from its northern exposure, which helps maintain better snow conditions throughout the winter season, typically from mid-December through late March. The facility offers seven courses across varying difficulty levels, with a total skiable area covering approximately 30 hectares. The longest run extends for 2,000 meters, making it suitable for both beginners and intermediate skiers.

Visitors to Fujiten can experience night skiing operations, which run until 22:00 on certain days, allowing skiers to enjoy illuminated slopes with Mount Fuji silhouetted against the night sky. The resort caters particularly well to families and beginners, with a dedicated children's snow play area and ski school offering lessons in both Japanese and English. During peak winter months, the resort can accommodate approximately 4,000 visitors daily across its facilities.

Access to Fujiten Snow Resort is possible via the Chuo Expressway, exiting at Kawaguchiko IC and continuing for approximately 15 kilometers by car, which takes roughly 20 minutes. Free shuttle buses operate from Kawaguchiko Station on the Fuji Kyuko Line during the ski season, with the journey taking about 30 minutes. From Tokyo, the total travel time by train and bus typically ranges from 2.5 to 3 hours.
