Hida Takayama Museum of Art

The Hida Takayama Museum of Art, located in Takayama city in Japan's Gifu Prefecture, opened in 1997 as a contemporary glass art museum. The museum was established to showcase the works of renowned glass artists and craftsmen, with a particular emphasis on Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. Its collection features pieces by prominent artists including Emile Gallé, Louis Comfort Tiffany, and René Lalique, representing some of the finest examples of decorative glass art from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The museum houses an impressive permanent collection of approximately 1,000 glass art pieces, making it one of Japan's most comprehensive glass art institutions. Beyond glasswork, the collection includes furniture, lamps, and decorative objects that exemplify the Art Nouveau aesthetic. The building itself incorporates Art Nouveau architectural elements, creating a harmonious environment that complements the exhibited works. The surrounding gardens, designed in traditional Japanese style, provide a peaceful setting that contrasts beautifully with the European artworks inside.
