Stretching from Soja City in Okayama Prefecture to the northern part of Okayama City, Kibiji is an area where you can experience the history and culture of ancient Kibi Province. Large-scale burial mounds from the Kofun period are scattered here and there, with representative examples being Zozan Kofun and Sakuyama Kofun. Many historical buildings also remain, such as the five-story pagoda of Bitchu Kokubunji Temple, Kibitsu Shrine, and Kibitsuhiko Shrine. The tranquil rural scenery and historical sites blend in harmony, making it a popular sightseeing route to explore by bicycle or on foot. The beautiful scenery, colored by rape blossoms in spring and cosmos in autumn, makes this a beloved area where you can experience the romance of ancient times and nature at the same time.
This is a tourist spot in Soja City. I recommend renting a bicycle and exploring the area. You can see the five-story pagoda, ancient tombs, and enjoy soba noodles at lunchtime. It's very compact and you can really feel the history, so I recommend it.
The symbol tower of Soja 😗
There might be lots of ancient burial mounds nearby...
The five-story pagoda is quite a sight to behold.
The ancient Kibiji region still remains. Scenery that can no longer be seen in Nara or Kyoto is preserved in Kibiji. It felt like I had traveled back in time to the Nara period.
