Traveler reviews

Was our first time snowboarding in Japan. The weather was perfect and the snow was gorgeous. Only there for 3days. Definitely coming back with the rest of my family. Felt safe. Lots of food variety. Chair lift and gondola access great.

Spent two nights in a camper van (thanks Roam and Roll) in the parking lot at the base of the hill. Conditions weren’t great, no fault to the resort. It’s a beginner heavy hill in my opinion, we spent half a day on Kagura side which we found more up our alley. If I were to do it again, I would spend a day on Naeba and a full day at Kagura. The Dragondola is worth whatever you pay, gorgeous views!
We had fun at Naeba Ski Resort, but it did not quite live up to expectations. Lift lines were actually great and we were able to ski straight back onto lifts most runs, even over a long holiday weekend. The resort is very beginner and intermediate focused, with very few black runs, and many of those were closed during our visit. Snow conditions were mixed. There were some pockets of powder, but overall the Naeba side was much icier than Kagura, which we accessed via the 40-minute gondola ride. Kagura consistently had better snow and more interesting terrain, making it the clear winner between the two. Facilities are solid and convenient, with most of them connected to the Prince Hotel complex, which feels like a resort built on top of a mall. You can find food, rentals, and gear easily. Night skiing was disappointing. Only a small green run was open, and many lifts shut down early, some as early as 2:30 pm, with others never opening despite being listed online. We chose Naeba based on snowfall numbers but left a bit disappointed. If we came back, we would likely skip Naeba and head a few more stops toward Nagano for better terrain and conditions.
The conditions were fantastic, however, they closed down most of the lifts due to what seemed like light wind conditions. Make sure you check the shuttle schedule to and from the Echigo-Yuzawa train station before making the trek from Tokyo, as there are no ride share services available if you have to catch the Shinkansen.
This is a very good ski resort as there are a lot of tracks for beginners and masters. There are also some nearby ski resort that you can go through a cable(extra fee) On 25/12/2025, to celebrate Christmas, they put up a firework show in the ski resort
