No. The guide is included, but the food you try at the markets and the rice cracker baking fee are paid separately.

Is there sake on this tour?

No. This walk focuses on food and history. If you would like to add a sake brewery visit and tasting, the operator runs a separate Food and Sake Brewery Tour in Takayama.

Takumi is the word for the well-trained, highly skilled carpenters from Hida. Your guide points out their craftsmanship at Yamazakura Shrine and explains Japanese religious traditions there.

Which morning markets does the walk include?

Two of them: the Miyagawa Morning Market by the Miyagawa River and the Jinya-mae Morning Market in front of Takayama Jinya, both full of traditional goods.

Come with an empty stomach

We met Yama at the tour agency office and stated our tour. We had already been at Takayama for a few days but Yama introduced us to food that we would not have tried in our own - one example for a chestnut mochi and the soft rice cake. Come with an empty stomach.

Worth your while

We had a great time on the foodtour with Yama. Learned a lot, tasted different things and made rice cookies. We can recommend Yama's foodtour.
